Go with simple items that are visually pleasing and allow air in the room. Too many items can clutter the nursery and make it difficult for the baby to breathe. Cot and cupboard that have simple patterns and designs make the room look bright and spacious. Similarly, choose colours that can be soothing for the eyes.
It would be a good idea to select items that go with a specific theme that baby might like. But make sure that these theme based items can be easily changed to solid colours later on. Because as the baby grows up you might feel that the theme is too babyish for the child.
